Resources about teens creating fake online personas?

I'm trying to write a paper about teenagers re-inventing themselves on the internet through fake information on MySpace/Facebook or being crazy and outlandish on YouTube. I want to discuss how teens are being someone they're not online to compensate for what's lacking in their real-world lives. I can't find any statistics about such issues, or articles, or anything. I need more information and maybe you might know sites, books, etc. to help me. Any ideas about what I should discuss in this essay? Any tips? Anything you can do to help me is great.

The only way to understand this particular subject is to participate in it yourself. Just don't get too caught up in it. or get used to it. You'll get hooked. just create a new myspace while acting as someone else. it's pretty fun. But i didn't get hooked. i only have one now. hope it hlps

I would have thought that this doesn't just include teens.

I know a girl who has a vlog on youtube which she thinks no one at school knows about. I do though, and she acts like she's someone else the whole time.
