Okay, If I think someone is using a fake myspace profile...?

could I use a tracker that logs IP addresses to prove that the same person is accessing my profile on the same computer using different myspace profiles?

Since, if two people were really accessing my profile using two different computers, the IP address would be different for each person, correct? Even if they (supposedly) lived in the same house? But if the same person was logging in using the same computer for both myspace profiles, they would register as the same IP?

just checking..???

Okay, If I think someone is using a fake myspace profile...?

There are multiple levels of IP addresses... coming out of a house, all the computers within would have the same IP (the router uses the MAC addresses to determine who gets what)

The same applies for even bigger networks... sometimes entire buildings have the same IP address... or an entire organization.

IP addresses are infamously unreliable. Most are dynamic (meaning they change periodically), and someone can use a proxy server in order to obtain an anonymous random IP.

So even if the IP's differ, that doesn't mean its not the same person (but you can probably count on it - most people don't go through such trouble).

Good luck
